09 August 1993: In the evening, we took the Alaska Ferry M.V. Matanuska from Haines to Skagway.

Check-in time for the ferry was 6:15 pm.  The ship arrived at 7:40 and had to wait until 8:00 for the ferry to Juneau to leave the dock.  It was 8:40 pm before the Matanuska began loading; we were not underway until 9:25; and it was not until 10:20 that we began leaving the ship in Skagway.  It was a long wait for a short trip.  [Of course, the time to drive 362 miles via the Haines Highway, the Alaska Highway and the Klondike Highway would be even longer.]
