Katmai National Park, home of the famous Brooks River grizzly bears and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, is located about 300 miles southwest of Anchorage on the Alaska Peninsula. It can only be reached by float plane or by small boat from the village of King Salmon via the Naknek River to Naknek Lake.
