Back Next Goose Creek Meeting, Lincoln, Virginia

15 May 2000:  Hannah Ingledew Janney (my wife's 5th great-grandmother) is considered to have been the driving force during the early years of the Goose Creek Meeting. This memorial to Hannah states: "Here on a log in the unbroken forest Hannah Janney, wife of Jacob Janney, worshiped twice weekly in 1736. In 1738 Friends Meetings were held in a private house once a month. Then came a log meeting house, then the old stone house in 1765 and the brick house in 1817." The dates 1736 and 1738 seem to be about 9 years too early.
