A portion of the railroad trestle bridge can be seen at the right. Harpers Ferry was a transportation center in the mid-1800s since it was at the intersection of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, the Baltimore & Ohio and Winchester & Potomac railroads and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal.
