The bloody Battle of Shiloh took place on April 6-7, 1862 in southwestern Tennessee at Pittsburg Landing on the banks of the Tennessee River. General Ulysses S. Grant later said, "In numbers engaged, no such contest ever took place on this continent; in importance of results, but few such have taken place in the history of the world."
