Civil War Next Shiloh, Tennessee

My wife's great grandfather, Tilman P. Gregg, was an officer with the 3rd Iowa Infantry Regiment which was positioned behind such a split-rail fence on the right flank of the peach orchard. One of the few surviving officers following the bloody battle, he was promoted to captain, but shortly after was forced to resign due to "jaundice, diarrhea and debility following typhoid fever."
