Great Sand Dunes

The 38,000 acres of sand dunes became a national monument in 1932. It became Great Sand Dunes National Monument and Preserve in 2000 and will become a national park and preserve with the planned acquisition of 100,000 additional acres of nearby wildlife refuge and forest lands.
