Scotland Next Kilchurn Castle -- Loch Awe, Argyll

Kilchurn Castle lies at the north end of Loch Awe. This view is from the east shore of the loch on A819. The castle was built by the Campbells of Glenorchy in the mid-15th century and was garrisoned for the Campbells by the MacGregors of Brackley until 1595. Following the breakdown of the relationship of the Campbells and the MacGregors of Glenstrae in the late 1550s, it became a base from which Grey Colin of Glenorchy, and his son Black Duncan, harried the MacGregors and ultimately wrested their Glenstrae lands from them.
