The Texas State Cemetery is located on 18 acres at 909 Navasota Street in Austin. General Edward Burleson, a vice-president of the Republic of Texas, was the first to be buried here in December, 1851. The state took over this burial ground in 1855 as a cemetery for those who have given significant service to Texas.
